Couples
Our primary relationship with another human is the most challenging relationship we enter in to. Our growth as individuals comes through our experiences in relationships. Couples have a particularly challenging task before them: Learning to live with another in a way that is safe, supportive and satisfying, while also maintaining curiosity and compassion.
When I work with couples I am treating the relationship. I have extensive couples therapy training with Stan Tatkin, the founder of the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT). Prior to PACT I trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. In addition to these techniques, I draw on a theoretical foundation in, early object relations theory, attachment theory, and relational and interpersonal psychoanalytic theories.
I help partners learn how to assertively pursue individual visions for themselves while building a structure of empathy and the ability regulate each other within the relationship. This process creates a space where the necessary compromises and adjustments can occur that support real growth and a deeper more satisfying connection.
The process of starting a family can be exciting and overwhelming. Another area of specialty I provide is working with new parents, particularly moms and babies, on adjusting to parenthood and building healthy attachment.
My sessions with couples are 75-90 minutes.
